Spring is finally in sight, and as regular as the robins it will bring with it the Shawangunk Wine Trail’s 16th annual spring wine tasting tour, Pasta Primo Vino! While the Trail’s events always offer samples of unique and varied wines and dishes at 14 wonderful wineries, Pasta Primo Vino! also offers the opportunity to taste the very first releases of the 2013 vintage. The new wines, which were grapes on our local vines as recently as last October, will show off the bright, fresh flavors of our Hudson Valley whites which, unlike the reds, don’t need time in the barrel to age and soften. The hot dry weather that favored us for most of the summer has made for some terrific 2013 wines.
Tickets are now available online at www.gunkswine.com for both days of this weekend-long event, which will take place up and down the Wine Trail on April 12th and 13th, from 10am to 6pm both days.
Ticket holders can visit 5, 10 or all 14 of the wineries, each of which will offer tastings of 4 wines and a homemade dish featuring Barilla Pasta. You’ll pick up a souvenir wine glass at your starting winery and then continue on a self-guided tour of the Trail at your own pace. Dishes will include a slow cooked Pork Sugo with Barilla Campanelle Pasta at Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery, Pasta Chi Chi at Benmarl Winery, and Penne Palaggi Pork Sunday Sauce served at Palaia Vineyards.
Come out and experience the quality of the Hudson Valley’s fine wines, one delicious sip at a time. Tickets are $35 for both days, $20 for Sunday only, and $10 for Designated Drivers. Buy early and save! There will be a limited number of tickets available for sale at each winery for an increased price ($45, $30 & $10 plus tax).
